Lubec & Campobello

Gabe and the kids have never been to the Lubec/Campobello area so when Gabe had a surprising 3 days off in a row, we jumped at the chance to camp for a few nights in that area.  We had beautiful weather and the tides worked in our favor so that all combined with the beauty of the area outweighed the incredible amount of mosquitos at our campsite.  Gabe and I have lived in Maine for most of our lives, but neither of us had experienced anything like it.  We had to eat meals inside our tent because we couldn't stand it... we even skipped meals because the mental strain of trying to cook with that many insects flying around was too much.  Needless to say we didn't have to spend much time at our site;)  

On our first day in town we explored the Quoddy Head light house, explored the beach there, and took in the sights of Lubec.  The next morning we got an early start to explore Campobello Island (luckily we remembered our passports!).  We toured the Roosevelt complex (technically getting in our first day of school;)), did some hiking, explored the Campobello light house at low tide (and got a tour of the inside), checked out the salmon pens, and saw lots of jelly fish on the beach.  

The next morning we quickly packed up camp and headed for home, but not before scouting out the way better camping sites with fewer mosquitos... so we will be better prepared in our planning for next time:)

Fourth of July 2018

We had a great 4th of July this year with near perfect weather (for a beach day that is!).  We watched the fireworks in Farmington on July 3rd which freed us up to travel on the 4th.  Gabe is in a local juggling group that usually participates in the Farmington July 4th parade, but this year they traveled to Georgetown to be in that parade instead.   We had never been to Georgetown itself so we spent the morning at Reid State Park, took in a very hot parade (Noah, James, and Ben got to be sign holders and made the local webpage), then went back to Reid to finish the day.

Sadly, just days after we finished the platform of the treehouse we had a significant wind storm, the tree split and now the platform is a near total loss... frustrating.

Beginning of Summer Misc.

We are starting our summer off with a bang!  The Yukica's came to visit and we all got out on the boat without any issues. We attended Seussical the Musical at the Waterville Opera House with friends and afterwards ate at a pub (that was probably more appropriate in our college days without kids) that had a keg for a urinal... which Gabe was so excited about he took a picture of it;)

Unfortunately it was another day trip this year, but we were able to squeeze in our annual trip to the Abbott's camp in Damariscotta.  Noah is starting to learn how to babysit some of our younger friends and finished up a sewing project all on his own.

We got all of our strawberry jam processed, our honey bees swarmed (which was both super interesting and super terrifying all at once), and we finished the platform (complete with a trap door) of our treehouse. Also somewhere in there, James is working on training the chickens... he thinks it is funny, but now they beg for food worse than a dog!
